Zurich: YAMAS

Zürich is a city that comes alive during the Summer. As soon as the sun is shining, people are happy and the many cafés and restaurants are buzzing. As a visitor to this beautiful city, which I have the privilege to call home, it is often difficult to find those special little places where you can have that great, friendly, memorable experience. Well my friends, here is one that I would like to share with you.

YAMAS is a fabulous Greek restaurant located in one of the newely developed areas in Zürich, Europaallee. There are loads of cool little places to visit in Lagerstrasse and this is definitely one of them.

OK, I confess I didn’t stop here solely for the coffee. It was more the greek food that I was interested in. Of course, after any meal I consider ordering coffee. For the sake of all of my Greek friends out there, I had to give it a try. If any place was going to serve a good Greek coffee it would have to be this place right? Let’s find out.

Atmosphere: Ne Re!

It was so nice to be able to sit outside and to feel relaxed as soon as I sat down. Welcomed by an authentic Greek waiter who, on his first night on the job, was friendly, happy to be bringing YAMAS to us and made sure we were ok. Now that’s service! The menu had a select number of Greek delicacies to choose from. From Ceviche to Lamb rolls filled with a delicious greek cheese and mushrooms. WOW! It was all fresh, extremely tasty and filled with amazing flavour. The dinner menu was delicious. It’s a great place to come for dinner and I’m sure lunch or an after work drink would be great here as well.  There is a good vibe about the place and what stands out, apart from the fantastic food, is the friendly, welcoming service. They have an extensive Greek wine menu as well as serving Greek coffee.

Greek Coffee rating

Dessert time! Once the waiter found out I was the coffee queen, he went through the coffee options on offer. Seeing that it was a warm evening, I decided on the cold Greek coffee, without sugar of course. My wish was his command – so nice when that happens! Out came this lovely long glass filled with ice cubes and Greek coffee which had been shaken, not stirred.  Upon tasting, it was smooth, fairly strong with no bitter aftertaste. I really enjoyed it! And you know what was nice for a change, no having to analyse it too much to see what blend or roast it was. I just enjoyed it. Simple.

What topped the coffee experience was the dessert – Ekmek. Speechless. It was amazing and was worth every single calorie.

Price: Was so caught up in the experience that I forgot to ask! I will go back and update
