Zurich: Café Lang

I first visited and reviewed Café Lang in March 2013! 5 years later, it is still a place I enjoy going to for coffee, lunch and  for an afterwork drink.  Although the staff  has changed over the years, the coffee  quality and cafe experience has been consistent. It is still the go to place for Italian style espresso and a creamy cappuccino. If my memory serves me correctly, I have even enjoyed an Espresso Martini here. Good news is, that the price of the Espresso has remained the same too!

Here is the original review from March 2013.

Limmatplatz in Kreis 5 has transformed into one of the busiest and hippest zones in Zürich. A waltz away from the tram stop is Café Lang. Will the espresso here sweep me off my feet, or will I want to do a quick step out the door? I polished my shoes, applied the gloss and made my way through the doors to find out.

Atmosphere: Vienesse

Be prepared to step into another time and space with a true Vienesse coffee house experience. The furniture, the beautiful wood panels, the vintage green, even the newspapers hanging on the walls ready to be read. Sit at the window booths for a bit of people watching or if you are into food, take a seat near the kitchen and observe the chefs at work. Love the sectioning of this place, great if you have a business meeting, for intimate conversation, or even quiet space for creative writing or composing. All that I had missing was the old cigarette holder.. even if I don’t smoke! Just when I thought I had experienced it all, I noticed the cute telephone booth with working phone, and then the fabulous authentic bathrooms. The centerpiece is the stunning long bar topped with sweet delights. Ahhh just beautiful!

Espresso rating

Here comes the espresso, delivered with a smile from one of the waiters – love the cute little aprons. The espresso waltz began with the delicate layer of espresso cream on the top, then that dark, rich, aromatic heaven, and finally that smooth, sweet, delicate taste.  The synergy between the La Marzocco machine and the special espresso blend, by Swiss company Blaser Café, deserves a round of applause. All made possible by qualifed Baristas too. If there was a little sweet on the plate, like an amaretto or chocolate, this place would have won me over for life!
